Sales Funnel Radio

My first 5 years in entrepreneurship was 34 painful product failures in a row (you heard me). Finally, on #35 it clicked, and for the next 4 years, 55 NEW offers made over $11m. I’ve learned enough to see a few flaws in my baby business… So, as entrepreneurs do, I built it up, just to burn it ALL down; deleting 50 products, and starting fresh. We’re a group of capitalist pig-loving entrepreneurs who are actively trying to get rich and give back. Are you treating sales funnels as your company?

If then you are doing it all wrong. Sales funnels are not companies; they are just very powerful ways to automate a sales message and an offer. They are the revenue engines of a company.

A company, on the other hand, is so much more.

So, what do you do after the funnel is up and working? You have to design and build the other parts of the company as well.

In this episode, I take you through the 5 core functions of a business and how the sales funnel fits into them.

Let's dive in!

Key Takeaways

- Designing fulfillment like a funnel (00:46)

- Funnels are not companies (01:34)

- What exactly is a sales funnel (04:50)

- Treat your sales funnel like a salesperson (09:12)

- The five core functions of a business (13:53)

- Designing fulfillment models vs. funnel design (19:47)

- Overdesign outbound communication (32:26)

- Traffic is a messaging problem (34:06)

While preparing for this episode, I looked up “how to stay small” just for fun. One of the things that popped up was a hilarious article about staying small in terms of muscle mass.

It was written using all the hyperbole examples of what you hear to get really jacked but saying the exact opposite. The point was to make fun of things we all hear as advice to get big.

After 15 minutes of a good laugh, I thought it'd be funny to take the same angle with this episode. So I'm gonna teach you how to stay small through five easy steps.

These are just five things I've just noticed that will:

  • keep you small
  • hold you back
  • help you not reach your potential

The point of this episode is to share this with you so that, inadvertently, you can figure out how other long-term, lifelong influencers relate with each other… Because it is not by smashing or bashing each other.

Let's dive in (thick skin time)...

Key Takeaways

- Intro (00:00)

- How to stay small (00:46)

- Step #1 - Become less and less coachable (03:59)

- Step #2 - Comparison city (which is really just jealousy) (07:44)

- Step #3 - Assume intent behind facts (10:16)

- Step #4 - Abandoning what you truly believe for the sake of acceptance (14:04)

- Step #5 - Talk bad about other people (19:38)

- 5 steps to stay small - summary (24:34)

- 5 ways to grow (26:47)

Most meetings are a colossal waste of time, effort, and the human genome.

I'm not saying all meetings are bad. But I am saying that 80% of them are too long, absolutely ineffective, and have no point, if you will. And that’s usually because people come unprepared to those meetings.

Google made popular five-minute meetings - they literally have meetings that last five minutes. And the reason they can do that is because of how much preparation is done prior to the meeting by all members who attended. That is an effective use of meeting time.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that an effective meeting can’t be longer than that. For instance, we have 90-minute weekly meetings that are very effective. But what makes them effective is the preparation all of the team members do before they show up.

But if you use meetings to brainstorm, that’s insanely wasteful. I know that there are people who need to talk out their thoughts, and that's fine. But I’m not that guy (as well as many others).

So I have this kind of emotional checklist I'm going through before deciding if a meeting is needed. And today, I want to give you 4-5 parameters you can use to make your meetings more effective.

I think that’s a pretty good reason to say,

Hey, let's have this meeting!

Key Takeaways

- Intro (00:00)

- A colossal waste of time (00:56)

- 4 things you need to ask yourself before deciding to have a meeting (04:39)

- Get into the meeting to get the outcome and then get out (12:45)

- Bad meetings are far worse than not having one (15:56)

- Good reasons to have a meeting (20:16)

- Meetings don’t have to be a waste of time (24:40)

The classic battle of being liked or heard is a marketing clash that's as old as time. And I want to jump in today and teach you guys something interesting about it.

First, I never considered myself a branding guy until 2020, when I was invited to speak for an event about branding. And I have to agree that branding is important.

But one of the biggest mistakes I see in branding is that people want to be liked versus heard. If you haven't noticed lately, they tend to do more funny ads to push their offer and be liked.

I'm not against making funny ads, but most marketers miss the point that you can both be funny while getting your message across to your audience. In their quest to chase the likes, they fail to realize that you can be liked but not heard. And that's what FAILED marketing looks like.

In this episode, I talk about how to do marketing that gets liked and heard and what you should prioritize in your marketing.

Key Takeaways

- Branding always comes second (04:43)

- One of the biggest mistakes I see in branding (10:10)

- Being liked is failed marketing (13:52)

- You can be both liked and heard (16:04)

- Get your message out there and be heard (17:55)

- What comes first before branding? (20:59)

I know when I'm going through some breakthroughs. Most of the time, it is waking up in the wee hours and mulling over things.

So, about a year ago, Russell and I talked about the kind of continuity he sees me doing. He pitched in about starting a newsletter where I could be teaching stuff.

Surprisingly, it tied up with a course I made about three years ago. It wasn't selling big, but that's basically the framework that built my businesses.

All of these good pieces have been sitting on my feet, but it was not until last night that it all clicked. I was finally able to fit the puzzle pieces all together.

But revelations or breakthroughs like this are not like walking up to a light switch and turning it on. You often discover a detailed piece of your future offer on a random day. So, here are my thoughts about how to move through it.

Key Takeaways

- Solve the problems that are in front of you (03:09)

- Going through big breakthroughs (5:02)

- My conversation with Russell (06:01)

- The biggest stumbling blocks for entrepreneurs (10:11)

- How I figured out my funnel framework? (14:56)

- How do the pieces fit together? (17:18)

- Figuring it out is one of the best things you can do (21:03)

- Thinking on the long-term play (23:40)

- Enduring more dips than the rest (25:44)
